Default Torn rubber shock boot (Xpost from A4)

1.8T FWD in for 30K svc. and I have a torn rubber shock boot on the driver's side rear. The dealer says it is because of the Eurosport springs and Bilstein HD combo since the spring will turn freely when on a lift (unweighted) which is not representative of a normal driving condition IMO. I am skeptical since this does not seem to be the case on the other side. Service advisor recommends "tethering" the spring to the strut perch so that it stays there. Has anyone done this or is this not advisable? Do you tether to the upper perch and lower or just one end? What did you use, zip tie or hose clamp?

Default I have H&R w/ Bilstiens Sports.....

I would be sceptical too.
A creaking noise shows up now and then, which would imply the need to move around.

And it would have come with directions to do so, if it was recomended.

And the Torn Boot, albiet cosmetically is'nt appealing. Technicaly, as long as you don't live & drive in harsh dusty enviroments, it should be fine. I mean, look at motorcycles with fully exposed shock seals.

my $0.02

Audi on!
