Default Torque allocation

Hi, I'm a recent BMW convert, just picked up a 98 A6. Couple questions:

How is the torque allocated front to rear? Is there a center diff, or is it some electronic dohickey?

It the tranny and drivetrain used in the 2.8 A6 the same as the ones used in the 2.7T and 4.2? ie, Can the powertrain take it if I up the engine output?

Default

The torque is split 50-50, then allocated mechanically as the wheels need it
