Turbo Kits
#2
Once you go beyond the K04 you end up with a power band that is much futher up in the rpms.
So you have to figure out where you want the power band and what type of driving/racing it will be for.

Well, are you asking for turbo brands, turbo kits, or companies that sell them?
There's also different types of turbos within a brand, hybrids, seperate components, internal design options, etc.
As politely as I can say, it'd be easier if you had a budget, whp goal, & driveability concerns laid out, and we could give you better guidance from there. Of course, that'll all be opinion based, especially on an internet forum. ;-)

Re: Turbo Kits
K04 kit, roughly $1600, plus PC-16 upgrade, $? FMIC, we'll say $800. Clutch to hold more power & lwfw, $900. Aftermarket exhaust, $660. That alone is getting up around $4000 without install costs, and will net you just over 200 whp, reliably.
If you were to go with a GT28RS kit, manifold, downpipe, big injectors, afpr, intake, fmic, clutch, ....will put you well over your budget without paying for install, and you still won't be at 300 whp. Plus, there's no specific programming out for larger turbos on an A4 1.8T, so your car may not run too well depending on who you have doing the work.
There's also a whole bunch of hp junkies on this forum (myself included) that'll tell you the 1.8T won't handle that much hp (on the stock short block) reliably. IMHO your best option would be to go with the K04 package I'd described above.
I've spent over $50,000 in the last 4 years on my A4, and have 335 whp. Granted, there's other ways to get there for less, but my engine can handle it. Doing the quick & easy way may work, but the engine won't last as long.
I was considering selling this car for $16000, but things have changed.

Re: Turbo Kits
AWE lwfw/clutch kits. Evoms FMIC. Those are my prefs though. I've had AWE's stage 2 and 3 on my cars, and both performed very well. I have a stage 3 on my silver car now, going on 20k on that clutch with no issues(they're only rated to 375 chp too, I'm doing 335 whp).
I like the Evoms FMIC kits because they fit so well, & have minimal pressure drop compared to some other kits out there. SPP's kit is also nice, though, but getting one in a timely manner is the issue with them.
