Default Turbo Upgrade Question.

Im looking into getting a new Garrett GT2560R turbo charger. Why should i get this over a KO4. Reliability, performance, installation, smooth ride, value? $850 about for KO4. $775 for the Garrett. LMK what you think.

Default GT25R is a bit different than the K04.

not a TON bigger, but it with the bigger wastegate, it can hold and produce more air flow.

install....there is not difference really, unless the GT25R has a different bolt pattern to the exhaust mani or cat.

Reliability...eh, k04 is a OEM part. But Garrett makes some pretty strong and reliable stuff.

Smooth ride...depends on software. K04 will have more power down low and will push you back in your seat a bit more. GT25R, will have more lag therefore you wont have the power at 2500RPM like you would in a k03 or k04. But the power comes on smooth and pulls harder, much faster.

What software would you like into for the GT25R? suporting mods??

This will only be the second mod ive done. First was a stage 1 GIAC chip. Also, it this something i could install myself and then get any ECU changes(or anything)done when the turbos in? Im worried about install prices. Some shops can be real pains in the *** about that. thanks for responding btw. later

Default It is definetly something you can install yourself.

I would highly reccomend getting the supporting mods.

-GT25R
-Exhaust Manifold
-Software!!!!
-DV
-MBC or EBC
-VR6 MAF maybe
-Inlet hose from Neuspeed or APR
-FMIC(does not have to be on at the same time, but sooner or later you awnt to have one to fix the timing)
-Exhaust w/ DP
-TP or HFC (Not needed but HIGHLY reccomended)
-Clutch (You will need it sooner or later with this sort of set up)

Then a few others that you should have t help maintain

-New fuel filter
-New spark plugs
-New boost/vac hoses
-New 02 sensors
-Check the PCV system, it may need to be replaced
-Boost gauge
-2.8/S4 engine mounts

Dont think iam missing anything.

*edit* You will need the correct sized injectors and possibly a new FPR.

Default K04 is bolt on, GT turbos for the most part aren't

in both cases you will need the appropriate software to run the turbo. You will need to upgrade your fueling to get the most out of the K04. Depending on the year of your car, there are different injector (sometimes stock) and fuel pressure regulator combos that work with specific software tuning.

I know all those things would help me get the most out of the turbo and the car, but are they totally necessary? I will add them later, no doubt but do i need them now? I want to get the best turbo i can but i dont want to go broke doing it. By the way, Im leaning towards a KO4 over any other. Still looking though. thanks for the help guys. Also, do i just go back to where i got the GIAC chip to get the new software for a new turbo?

Default Things that you WILL need from the get go...

-GT25R
-Exhaust mani, assuming that the GT25R is not a direct bolt on which i do not beleive it is.
-HFC or TP if the GT25R will not directly bolt on to the stock one.
-Software
-Bigger Inlet hose
-Probably a VR MAF
-Injectors
-Myabe a different FPR

You could probably get away with just that aboe, but i woudlnt do it, i would also get

-Exhaust
-DV
-MBC or EBC
-Fuel filter
-Colder spark plugs
-You will need a FMIC, but not immediatley
-Clutch, same deal as the FMIC

Default Re: Well where are you looking to get the turbo from?

Well, after i figure out what exactly is the problem with my turbo, Ill buy a new one from ctsturbo.com. They have great prices and i can get an install kit from them. Which is better: the KO4 or the GT25R?

By the way, im not SURE its the turbo going out. Are there any tell tale signs it could be something else. A leak perhaps? I can distinctly hear and feel the turbo hesistate when i accelerate. The pitch of the sound is higher and the car doesnt quite pull like it used to. Keep in mind that i have the GIAC upgraded chip. Thanks again for the help.

Also, BeeJ thats a nice looking audi. well done.
