Default Uneven brake wear... rubbing/grinding noise... need help...

I just got Porterfield R4S for the fronts on my A4. The brake set up is stock. I'm going to NHIS on Monday and I didn't think the stock pads will hold up. I noticed a rubbing/grinding sound coming from the front when the brake isn't even applied. When I studied the rotors, I noticed that only the outter 2/3 of the rotors are making contact with the pads. The inner 1/3 still has rust spots. Is this normal with some new pads? Will it resolve itselft once the outter part of the pads wear down to a point where it's even with the inner part? If not normal, what caused it and what can I do to resolve it? Thanks!

Default Previous track events?

Have you done any prior track events with your car and overheated the brakes? If so, the rotors may have "coned".
Did you go through a bedding process with the R4S'?

I'll be at NHIS as well on Monday, see you there. Hope for decent weather.

Default Yes, I have gone through the bedding process and yes, I have overheated my brakes..

in August at Watkins Glen. I think I glazed my pads. That is why I switched over to Porterfields. I hear NHIS is brutal on brakes. I'm not farmiliar with the term "coned." Is this a permanent thing? Thanks.

Default Yes I've experienced the same exact problem...

By the way, I also went to R4S. If you do not do anything it will eventually cure itself as the pads wear out. (3 - 4 months of normal driving.) If you'd like to speed that up, maybe 300 miles of track time, should do about the same.

But if you want to fix the grinding ASAP, get new rotors.

I took option (1). Now the breaks scream only when the pads are cold (but this is much much quieter than the awful grinding noises of the first 3 months.)

Good luck! And let me know how it turns out.
