I finally got to do something with all these parts laying around. Feel free to hit me with questions(and no, I don't have any more).
Starting with the drive up, no A/C, about 45-50 miles at hiway speeds. Ambient temps around 70 degrees f.

Here's the stock parts out, compared to what's going in.

So, here's where it got tricky. There's a pair of nubs to keep the original cooler in place, that the new, larger one hits.
<img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/54525/nubs.jpg">
Solution: Grind off the nubs(carefully!). Also made sure to cover the surfaces, don't want any shavings in the oil system.
<img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/54525/nonubs.jpg">
Next was to test fit the cooler...
<img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/54525/underview.jpg">
All was good. So now to test fit filters. Stock "561B" 1.8T filter fit fine.

<img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/54525/561bclear2.jpg">
But what about the bigger, "J" filter for the V6's?
<img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/54525/jfclearance.jpg">
<img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/54525/jfilter.jpg">
Sweet! Fits, no problem! Since we're hoping to lower oil temps, using a bigger filter size should help, right? I left it on. Next is a shot from the top, I stuck the camera under the intake manifold.
<img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/54525/topview.jpg">
It all looks good, filled up with Mobil 1 0W40, topped off coolant, ran the engine for a while to check for leaks, and it was off to a 4th of July party by 1 PM. 45-50 miles, hiway speeds, ambient temps around 90 degrees F. A/C definitely on!
<img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/54525/v6oc.jpg">
Funny, either I'm splitting hairs-or there's not much of a difference. I'll be interested to see if there'll be a difference on the track, wonder if it'll go to 250 still...

Its not really a "cooler" but a "heat exchanger!" ;O)
It exchanges heat between the radiator coolant & engine oil. Its temp is regulated by the radiator & radiator fans. The S4 sized unit does not look to provide a larger amount of cooling capacity, over the OEM unit.
Plus with hot coolant circulating through the unit, the engine oil will never really be "cool"! ;O)

I'm hoping it'll exchange heat at a faster rate, so I won't need something big like this...

This cooler is going on my 2.0L conversion, whenever it actually gets finished...

a couple of centimeters more cooling surface didt quite make a difference huh :)
you should have done the oil filter reloc kit since you're already there. slipping in an oil cooler is a snap when youve relocated the filter

The stock thermostat and fan are set for 90C (194F)
since the oil heat transfers to the cooling system, the oil temps will always be higher than the coolant temps.
Now that it's warmer (85-90F) and I've got the A/C on, I've been noticing my oil temps hitting 235F in traffic.
I've got a 80C (176F) fan switch and thermostat on order, I think that will make a bigger difference than a larger oil cooler
