SUBJECT: WARNING: UPSTAGING APR'S STAGE 3 KIT WITH KICK *** PES TUNING KIT
IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING APR, READ THIS ARTICLE BEFORE YOU MAKE A BIG! MISTAKE
I had my brother install a stage 3 APR on his 2000 A4. The car has given him nothing but problems since. From day 1,the car was running with 25 lbs. of boost. I know it seems to be a lot, but believe that it doesn't impress me. THE CAR SUCKS! AND APR TOO!!!!
I went to New Jersey and we test drove the red A4 that PES Tuning has posted on their website. The car cannot be compared to that of APR. The red car is so smooth that my brother's car seems like a stock A4, even with APR's stage 3 computer chip.
I decided to put the PES tuning turbo kit on my 98 A4 with 45,000 miles. I only want to say one thing. I was on the NJ turnpike when I took it from PES Tuning--the car, on fifth gear, I stepped on the accelator and rocketed to 140mph with a steady 23 lbs of boost at that speed! And it seemed that we just started speeding. And, by the way, I'm running with stock catalytic convertor, stock down pipe and clutch.
I did the same thing on my brother's 2000 A4 with the APR stage 3 kit when I picked it up from Auburn, MA Adrenalin. On the DYNO test done by Adrenalin, the car put only 202 hp at the wheels; APR claims 250 hp WHERE'S THE REST?
The car took forever and a day to reach 140 mph, while my car's needle would have been broken off in the same time. Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming Adrenalin; it's the APR software that does not do justice to the quality and performance of the Audi A4's capabilities.

Something must've been wrong with the APR kit.
The PES kit is not that much faster than the APR kit... if at all. You should call APR about the stage 3 kit performance problems.
As far as your dyno results, I think you're a little mixed up there. APR actually claims 280 hp at the *engine", not at the wheels. You listed your dyno results as being 202 hp at the *wheels*. First question for you, do you have 2wd or quattro?
If you have quattro, then I have heard there is as much as a 30% drivetrain loss. But let's assume you were getting only 28% loss, just for the benefit of the doubt. Well, 202 hp at the wheels comes out to about 280 hp at the engine, assuming 28% drivetrain loss. That's not bad for the PES kit, especially since they quote 270.
But anyway, both the APR kit and the PES kit are apparently very good, and very similar as far as power, although they do have different characteristics. I have never ridden in either, but this is the information I've gathered from the various people on this site who do have the kits.
Anyway, I'm just trying to help clear up the situation here. If the PES kit is *way* more powerful than the APR kit, then something must be wrong with the APR kit. They should be fairly similar.

I belive APR dynoed Ed P's car at 250 hp to the wheels with
race gas and race gas programming. Dingster ran a 13.5 1/4 mile with his stage 3 kit which seems to be on par with CMH's 13.6 with the PES kit. Both posted timeslips here somewhere. I would think the performce of the kits is fairly similar. I can't comment on smooothness or drivability though. i have no first hand experience with either kit.

nope, the 250 was on pump. It dynoed at 271 on 104 oct.
