Weird tranny noise...
Just installed the APR clutch/flywheel combo on my 97 A4TQ, now at idel with A/C turned on, my tranny makes a pretty loud clicking noise.
The funny thing is, if I step on the clutch, it goes away. And if I'm moving it goes away...
Anyone have any idea? My mechanic tells me it's the clutch, I told them that is impossible, I'm sure APR sent hours of reaserch into it.
I have a feeling they installed it wrong and are trying blame it on the clutch not being OE part.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same rattle, same conditions. Mine went away when the AC was turned off.
We never did figure that one out. I have had that tranny apart since then and found nothing mechanically out of order.

It's normal.. caused by the lighter flywheel
Due to the design of a piston engine, the rotation speed is not even at idle, It's faster when the piston is at it's power stroke and slowest at compression stroke. The more pistons you have the higher the frequecy this occurs and the smoother the engine is. A heavy flywheel also dampens this but since you have a much lighter flywheel this uneven change of rpm at idle is more pronounced. There's some lash in the gears so that's the noise you're hearing as the rpm goes up and down(you can't see this from the tach since it happens so fast). When you turn the AC on, there's more load on teh engine and when it's not on a power stroke the engine slows down even more so the rpm difference is increased and you can hear the gears even more. When you press the clutch, you're disengaging the flywheel from the tranny and the gears no longer spin and that's why the noise goes away. You'll have to live with it since this is just a compromise between comfort and performance. Increase the idle may help a bit.

it is the clutch!!!
did you replace the throw out bearing and the pilot bearing..... there is a possibility of the flywheel not balanced properly. i had that same problem had it rebalanced and it was gone....
