Caveats....
Hiya,
An 87 GN will smoke just about everything, that is true. What you would be giving up, provided the GN was in the same new condition as your Audi is: reliability, all-weather traction, cornering/handling, convenience of 4drs and safety.
Also, the number of GNs decreases by the year. They are all driven by people who like straight-line speed, and on a 13 yr. old car, that can really take its toll. The turbos, oil lines and trannies are all weak points on the GM design. Front-end liftoff on cars that go into the 12s is also a big safety issue to consider, if you are going to the drags with the car (or if you choose to do this kind of thing on public roads).
If you can find a mint example, it would certainly be a collectable, but in my opinion, I wouldn't make it a daily driver for that reason.
Keep the Audi, save for a collectors GN to tinker with,
Take care,
Michael

60ft is usually in the 1.6 range. Mods, lets see.......
he has a T46 turbo
46lb. injectors (bluetop?)
'Tin-Man' cold air intake
Hemco plenum (sp?)
ANS Manual boost control
ANS Anti-Knock thing
some sort of manual fuel pressure control thing
3' exhaust with dump
3 or 4 different chips depending on conditions (can you believe chips for that car are like $40)
extended intercooler
butt stock bottom end and trans. the car has 22K origional miles on it.
I am sure I am forgetting something but that's all I can think of now.

I remember reading an article rating "moddable" cars...
It gave the good and the bad... example:
"Mazda 323 Turbo AWD"
Good: Super Sleeper, AWD, Taught Suspension
Bad: It's still a 323
For the Grand National it said:
"Buick Grand National"
Good: Fast, Very Fast, Can be made to go extremely fast.
Bad: (beside the point for this post).
But I was rollin' though when I read that.
Dave.

If you wanna be the king of drag racing around there, get it.
They are super easy to make fast, and the go fast parts for them are cheap and there are plenty of them.
My buddy Chris Chow ran his GN to a 9.1 @ 150mph, and an estimated 1400RWHP. Couldn't get a true dyno number as most dynos only go up to 1200RWHP. His street GN pulled 421HP on a clogged fuel line and ran low 12's when the problem was fixed, but has yet to dyno again.
But they are fast, and cheap to make fast. If you're going for speed, you're looking at the right car.

If you want an easily modded car
get a 3000GT VR-4 used if you wanna keep the AWD or pick up a Supra TT, basic mods on the Supra (1500 bux) and it'll run low mid 12's with traps in the high teens, and put 400 to the rear wheels.
