who makes a good cold Air intake
#2
No one! All most aftermarket manufacturers do is put a cone filter in a hot engine bay . . .
and call it a cold air intake. I may flow more air than a panel filter in some cases (certainly not all cases), but any cold air in the engine bay becomes hot air after the engine warms up. Hot air has less density; thus, there exists less oxygen for the engine to burn per cubic centimeter of air. Ever notice that your car feels more powerful on a cold morning--that's the dense cold air.
So, you want to get either cold air to the air box with a ram-air system--either under the grill to the oem inlet or through the lower front grill to a secondary air passage to the air box. (We do this often on the 2.8l 12v.).
Additionally, you can try to extend a cone filter down to where it can receive some outside air flow--again, the lower front grill appears a perfect place for that.
Any good system will take customization and lots of hard work to make it efficient and fit in the narrow confines of the A4 engine bay.
