But the general concensus seems to be it is better to upgrade to a coilover setup. I'm so confused!

Both of the S4's featured in the Audiworld article, as well as the Intrax A4 use spring/shock combo

Default Let me try to clear up some of the confustion...

All of those mentioned vehicles utilize a "coil over" spring/shock set-up. Coil overs still consist of springs and shocks. The primary difference is that this system is height adjustable. Hope this helps a little.

Yep: A shock, not a strut. The *real* race cars use a real wishbone too.

The INTRAX car uses the A.R.S. coilovers. This is a true coilover with threaded shock, not a sleeve

Default !?!?

Both the Audisport and the Istook/Aines S4's use full blown coilover systems. The shocks are threaded, not sleeved. Penskes are as good as they get, and those Konis from TC are quite excellent too! They list the springs seperately because this isn't a typical aftermarket all show no go setup. Parts come seperately, and they are expensive for this level of equipment. This sort of stuff also takes quite a bit of time and experience to properly tune and setup. It's probably easier to mess up your suspension than it is to get it right.
