will I loose the abillity to use VVT if I switch to an AEB Head on my ATW block..

The ATW did not come with VVT so I am not sure what your worried about
you might want to worry more about not passing inspection and DTC's that will be thrown because the AEB head does not use the secondary air pump since there is no inlet for it on the back of the head.
BTW the valves are not bigger, it is the intake ports that are bigger on the AEB head. I went with a AEB head that has been ported out to flow even more.

Re: Do you think VVT is worth the hassle on an AEB head?
It really was not hassle as it came with the vvt. I wass also given it so I dont know the price it all costs, although I'm pretty sure its pricey.
Head came all built from Eurospec. I never actually had the VVT hooked up, was just going to wait till standalone and run it off one of the inputs.
Ends up at the time I was having a few issues and dont really trust Eurospec and I swapped the stock head back on the car right now. Stock head actually looked better then the Eurospec head. I had it looked at and vacume tested and it was fine. Although the valves are really short so its hard to diagnose.
Im gonna throw this head back in when I have the standalone running probably this summer.
It all bolts up though to the head, I had to trim a little tab on the back of the valve cover, that is it.

Is the VVT part controlled by the ECU?
I went to schrick cams so I did not see the point of going to a stock type came that was made for the 2001 head. I would really hate to see the issues that might make putting a AEB (non dbw) head with 2001 VVT cam setup on a 2000 motor/ecu.

The head work I had done cost me about $1500
plus the price of schrick cams. You might want to do it in steps, do the 2 liter first and then do the head work later on. All of this will need custom tuning though.
