Default Xr4tic...or others who swapped to 2.8 trans...

Basically I was driving my car like I stole it for a good 20 miles...Lots of launches :-)
then the straw that broke the camels back...one final finally, a nice 5 k launch hit 2nd and boom...throws it out.

I tried to put it in holding it with both hands and it slammed it out back in neutral.
Trans is jacked...i'm off at school and need car....

so...what all is needed to get the 2.8 tranny in there. I assume new tranny mounts for each side?
Anything else? All the sensors are in same spot?
Fits my nice carbon fiber driveshaft perfect?

Thanks a lot.

Default Bolts right in....

The bellhousings are identical, the only thing that is different, are the gear ratios.

My current trans is a combination of gears out of a 95 A6 (1,2,3), and 98 2.8 (4,5)

Sounds like you did the same thing I did, broke the slider that engages 2nd gear.

Default It is just that easy.....

well, with the exception of actually having to pull it out and put it back in.

If you look at ETKA, you'll see everything is the same, they just list different part numbers for the gears.

Default Got an estimate for labor cost?

I wouldn't mind switching to a longer 1st and 5th. If the labor isn't too bad, think this might be a worthwhile change?

Default My first gear is gone. synchros and other gears damaged.

I have been thinking about putting in a 2.8 transmission as a temporary solution until I have the resources for a new 6 speed. I am now considering replacing the gears and bearings but I am not sure about the costs or a place to find the parts. Where did you buy your gears and what would the expected costs be?
Thanks
