The Gen-1 Q5 roof bars can be easily modified to fit the Q3, I just did this. Q5 bars are available pretty cheap on Ebay ($150).
Basically, the rear Q5 bar gets used on the front of the Q3, and the front Q5 bar gets modified to fit on the Q3 rear.
The mods are to grind-off two of the 3 locating nubs on the mounting foot clamp, and then shorten the aluminum bar by 4 inches, then remount the modified foot.
The instructions are on the UK Audi Owners forum.
