This is the Gold Coverage from the Audi dealership that supposedly covers 99% of issues with no deductible.

I was at my bank yesterday looking to buy a much cheaper warranty through Route 66 (for ~$1500) but discovered it only covered powertrain.

My question to those knowledgeable on the subject is $4k a fair price for piece of mind on the type of car? My current car for 11 years has been an ACURA TL with 230k miles. It's still running and refuses to break lol. I will end up keeping both cars so I don't run up the miles on the SQ5.

Thanks!
But without a doubt, the full extended warranty is ABSOLUTELY worth it...

Not to me. I don't buy warranties and have never regretted the decision.

What's wrong with accepting a little responsibility and risk yourself?

It would seem that purchasing a warranty for one's self is exactly, "accepting responsibility"...not to mention, in my experience, with a broken timing belt on my A3 and a bad TCM also on my A3, the extended paid me back in spades the initial investment...

Buying a warranty is not irresponsible but it is by definition paying someone else to accept the risk that something will go wrong and responsibility for paying for repairs if it does.

Just asked the local Audi dealer about my 14 SQ5 and they replied

Ok. Looks like the date it was originally sold was 4/26/14 and you are eligible for:

84 additional months up to 70k miles is 7,142 miles per year at $2815

72 additional months up to 60k miles is 6,666 miles per year at $2355

same coverage... new car coverage titled "platinum"

This is through Audi and can be used at any Audi store. It is also cancellable and transferable with a pro-rated refund for both time and miles.

Ended up with 72 additional months up to 60k miles is 6,666 miles per year at $2100. Happy enough.

Default CPO'd

"Another suggestion: Instead of considering an Extended warranty, it may be prudent to consider having the vehicle CPO'd instead. I think it may still qualify for CPO status. CPO will extended the warranty for two years which gives you some time to build up a repair fund or decide whether to purchase an extended warranty. Remember, no matter how good a used car looks including its low mileage, you still do not know how the original owner treated the car. CPO would put those concerns to rest for, at least, two years."

Is it possible to have a car CPO'd if you purchased from an individual or non-Audi dealership?

I don't think so. I think a dealer has to perform a specific detailed list of inspections and certify the car in order to declare it "Certified Pre-Owned."

I assume the dealer accepts some degree of financial obligation with the CPO because the purpose of CPO is to make it easier for a dealer to sell a used car..

Plus getting an Extended warranty is way cheaper while you still have the org warr. and HBarlow is right. Anyway, don't think you can just buy a CPO
