Default 2014 Audi SQ5 steering problem

I have 2014 Audi SQ% with about 65000 miles. After sitting over weekend, when I started the car red steering wheel fault light came on with warning beeps and steering was hard as rock. I took it to dealer and they says electromechanical steering rack is bad and it need to be replaced. They says it is outside of warranty and going to cost about $3000. This is very shocking news as car was just fine and the problem came up suddenly without any prior warning or symptoms. Do anyone had similar problem and is there any information about the resolution.

Default Resolution? I have same problem

Have you found a resolution to the steering problem? Last Thursday night, out of no where my steering went out. I parked my car for about 10 minutes, went back out to drive home and when I turned my car on, I had a red steering wheel light on the dash along with a message saying “steering failure do not drive” and the steering wheel was totally locked up. Took it to Audi and they told me the steering rack needs to be replaced, gave me a repair cost of $4300. Oh and my car is at 60k exactly.

IIRC there was a recall related to steering issues...particularly in cold temps I think. However I’d think you either already had it done or you dealers would have mentioned it. I can’t recall the details at the moment.

Yea this issue seemed to happen during the cold winter months, the electric steering rack fails. Some people said that after turning off/on the vehicle it went away, but it seems like the only fix is to replace the rack.

Repair is a software update only; no parts required.
