2014 Q5 P+ Cuvee Silver
Hi All,
Allow myself to introduce myself. My name is Richie Cunningham...j/k - Jeff
This is my first Audi, actually my first new car. Previous cars were used and abused. A silver 1993 Chevy Cavalier z24, which I rocked as a HS senior in 1997 and a white 1998 Infiniti I30t which I sold in 2004. I've been carless since then due to city living, but now married with toddlers, so it's time to become a soccer mom. I live in Brooklyn, NY and I will be parking on the street. And that absolutely scares my pants off, but I'm going to do as much as possible to protect my new baby.
The baby:
Premium Plus, walnut inlay, ebony seats, Cuvee Silver Metallic, stock wheels. Attached photo is the model we test drove (2013), but my wife wanted an pristine and factory clean one so we ordered a 2014. She is a germaphobe and OCD, but that netted me 9 additional bhp and an advanced key--Wohoo! The Cuvee silver is deceptively brilliant. We were torn between Cuvee and Ice, but kept going back to the Cuvee. Almost every SUV/CUV here is either light silver or black--the Cuvee stands out.
Dealer delivery is scheduled for the week of 8/26 (ordered on 6/22) and the wait has been like trying to get sleep on Christmas eve when I was 8. Everyday it's killing me.
I get Audi Supplier discount through work so I'll get 6% off MSRP. I plan to use the savings for...
The security blankets:
After market hitch: Curt hitch designed for the Q5. Paid $167 shipped including tax. it will cost $100 to install--I have no tools or burly man hands to do the install properly.
Being in Brooklyn, I am going to pay dearly for insurance. Street parking is madness and people are idiots and play bumper cars when they park. Every single bumper is pitted with marks and chips unless you have rear guards or those God-awful bumper badgers. I did some research and found the superbumper ($176 shipped)--a step hitch with a compression system. For front protection, I'm going with a bumpshox xl license plate holder.
I'll also be getting this baby wrapped in Xpel Ultimate self-healing paint protection. Full body kits (all painted areas) retail for around $1300, but I'm going to get three quotes for factory approved installers in my area. I want to protect it from the weather and bird poop stains since it's going to be outside 24/7. Warranty is for 10 years and I plan on raising it with my toddlers for that long, if all goes well.
With 24/7 street parking, I also want to protect the interior, xso I'm going to get windows tints on all glass, either Huper Optik or 3M crystalline. In NY, 70% legal on front windshield a front windows, 20% rear, back and sunroof. Hopefully the heat rejection will help protect the leather and increase comfort/ac efficiency. UV protection all around for the tots and wife who lives in sunscreen.
I'll post pictures of the delivery and the installs of the hitch, paint protection, and tint.
Thanks for all the great posts--I check this forum on a daily basis throughout the day. Already addicted to Audi.
Cheers,
Jeff

Congrats! Cuvee Silver extrudes very elegant & luxuries feeling.
Having lived in Boston with the pleasure of street parking, I can feel your pain. Let us know how all your 'protection' plans go.

Welcome. Excellent exterior color. Will save you lots of car washes.
Recently ordered a 2014 Q5 TDI P+ in Cuvee Silver. We went for pistachio beige interior with layered oak. Also NAV and B&O. This is our second Q5. Current one is to be traded-in. It is a 2010 Q5 3.2 P+ with gray interior and walnut trim.
Good luck.

Congrats! I saw a Cuvée recently and thought it was sharp - and will look great paired with the Black interior. Just checked out the website for Superbumper and looks like it'll do the trick. I live in DC where bumpers are smacked up as well so I have a Parking Armour protector which is large and has worked out for me since I have a garage space and only street park a few times a week. Good luck with your Q5...and welcome to responsible adulthood!

Thanks guys!
@S4forDC
Just saw some pics of Q3 you took in the Q3 forum. Looks like a mini Q5 and the sloped rear--similar to the Porsche Macan spy shots. Did you squeal like a little school girl when you spotted it?
Anyway. Just got an email from my Audi Specialist and my Q5 just hit the port in Rhode Island. Should be at the dealer storage facility next week, which is a week earlier than expected!
I didn't get NAV, so I ordered tune2air off amazon based on another thread here. The $3500 savings will go toward ppf and tints. Definitely going with Xpel Ultimate after a few weeks of research and entertaining flame war threads on tintdude. Just have to get some quotes from Xpel certified installers and decide if I want to go with a DAP kit or custom install. I'll probably look to bundle window tints with the Xpel and maybe save a few bucks. More to follow on that.
I found a hitch installer who will install my aftermarket curt hitch for $100.
Superbumper got delivered and they threw in a free hitch lock because of a shipping delay, but I already ordered one with the hitch. Good guy and looking forward to seeing what it looks like installed--hopefully it won't look too awkward.
I will definitely post pics of all the "mods" when they are complete.
Charging up my cameras tonight.
Cheers!
Jeff

Great choice. My wife has a 2013 cuvee silver w chestnut interior. Agree about street parking. We lived in Hoboken for 4 years and my wife's previous car's bumpers were destroyed. Once even had a guy w a jeep park on top of her hood to squeeze in. Best of luck and congrats!
