2016 Q5-Extended Warranty?
We have a 2016 Q5 that has 23,500 miles. The factory warranty we have ends this September due to time. We plan to keep the car for some time so my question is, should we purchase an extended warranty? If so which one? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Do you already have an extended warranty? If you are living in the US the factory warranty is good for only 4 years, or are you saying that you purchased your 2016 Q5 new in Sept. of 2017?

The warranty that ends in Sept. is one we got when we purchased the car. It might be an extension but it ends in Sept.

Personally, I'd take whatever the addl warranty costs and put the money aside to handle any maintenance items. You'll probably out ahead and especially so if you use a good independent vw/Audi garage, like I do for maintenance I don't want to do myself.

In general the consensus appears to be that the oil consumption and cam chain issues were mostly resolved by 2016, more research would be warranted. If these are still issues, or haven't already been addressed on your vehicle, then get a warranty which covers at least the piston rings and hopefully the cam chain prememptively. If you're not handy with a wrench to deal with water pumps and PCV valves and turbo replacements, then get a warranty.
If I had a 2016 2.0T I'd trade it for a <= 2017 3.0T instead of putting more $$ towards the 2.0T. But that's just me.
EDIT: The other question is how long you expect to own the vehicle. If you're going to have it another 5 years and only put 25k on it, maybe forgo the warranty entirely. But once you get past 75k ... it seems that's when the 2.0T's seem to have issues or need significant pre-emptive work.
