Default advice for buying used Q5 3.0 TDI

Hi All,

I'm looking to buy a used 2015 Q5 3.0 TDI and hoping you all can share some insights on the follow to help my decisions.

In California, What is the target price range I should be negotiating for 30k, 40k and 50k miles?

What are issues you've dealt with on your Q5 3.0 TDI?

what are red flags I should look for when reviewing
Carfax report?

What is the typical maintenance cost for this? service, oil change, etc.

Any issues with diesel? Is it reliable?

Common issues you've dealt with.

Common issues and maintenance after 50k?

thanks in advance.

I can’t help you with current pricing, but the engine is excellent and diesel is well suited to drivers who don’t only do short haul trips. If you take it out at highway speeds for 30+ minutes every week or two, you allow the particulate filter to go through a regenerate process that is necessary. If you do mainly short haul and stop and go, get a gasoline engine. There are no typical failures in this engine, but the emissions system is subject to part failures. The 2015 and 2016 seem to have fewer of these than the 2014’s. Because of the Vw diesel settlement, all engine and emissions failures are covered under a long warranty. Good luck in your search. It’s a great car.

I have a 2015 Q5 TDI Prestige with less than 25,000 miles. Absolutely no issues until this past August.:
Right DRL - replaced module under warranty
CEL light - dealer repleced knock sensor
CEL light- dealer cleaned O2 sensor under warranty - was told to drive vehicle "more aggressively and not like an old lady"
slight oil leak - dealer is replacing rear oil seal (in shop since 8am this past Monday)

Thanks for the assurance everyone. Love what I'm hearing.

Thoughts on price? About 30k miles, clean carfax, 1 owner, consistant oil filters, for 30k.

fair price? How much lower can I negotiate it down?

how and where can you tell if a car needs the emissions fix? Looking to buy a used one and want to be sure I'm not walking into a. Bad deal with a bunch of issues....

how mcuh is the emmissions fix? And what exactly is the emissions issue?
