It appears that any DI engine will at some time or other, require a valve cleaning to restore full performance. I've seen the cost reported at somewhere between $400-$700.
Note that this is a different topic than the OP of the thread which addresses the Audi extended warranty on the cleaning of the secondary air ports in certain models/years and not cleaning the valves.
