I can't believe some people haven't heard of a clay bar.
It has been out for at least 15 yrs.

It's not something you come across routinely. Most people just Wash, clean, polish and wax. It's only when you shell out $150+ for a detail or want to make your car look like a show car that you get into clay bars.

Not if you do it yourself. I've NEVER let anyone detail my car but me.

First thing I do with a new car is clay the horizontal surfaces and remove any contaminates from the paint. Although Audi does a good job of wrapping there cars for shipping, other manufactures are not so good and rail dust could be a big problem.

I clay all my cars just for the environmental contaminants (read that as bird poop, tree sap - yeah they both do happen regardless of how cautious u r!) AND for snow to just wipe/fall right off.
My hubby & I take pride in our cars - regardless of the cost of each car, any car, it is an investment and y not take care of it??
Has life gotten SOOOO 'busy' one cannot take a few hrs to make your vehicle, that you depend on daily, make it look nice/keep it looking nice.

Actually not an investment that will bring you any positive returns. It is a depreciating asset and it does not really make a big difference to the value when you return or re-sell it. There is thus no real financial motivation to keep the car clean.

It does however give a huge amount of satisfaction to drive around in a sparkling clean car and does say something about the person driving it.

I have never "clayed" a car myself, but the Q5's lines are so beautiful that I feel like caressing her all over with a clay bar
I was under the impression that clay does not exist in its original form any more, just in liquid artificial form. Any thoughts? Are some "better" than others?

I agree with you... but only at this point in my life. Priorities change with time and I completely understand why claying is not on everybodys list of must do things.

Are you saying that taking care of the paint on your car doesn't positively affect its value? That statement can not be any further from the truth.

If you're looking to remove road contaminants without hours of clay baring try the product I posted above. Simply spray on and watch the tar and road grime fall off your car.

Indeed. I got near maximum (galves.com rated) trade-in towards my present A5 thanks to keeping it in excellent condition.

Pliable solid clay is still readily available and the way to go vs. liquid imho.

Has anyone invested or had experience with products like these
http://www.autogeek.net/carwax.html
I've always done my own vehicles including clay baring but have never invested 75 or 150 bucks in a tub of wax or sealants or multistep procedures of applying waxes
