Default Disable Rear Door?

Hi,

Am eagerly awaiting delivery of my Q5 3.0T and was looking for a bike rack. I would prefer a hitch but I can totally see opening the hitch with my bike and/or rack in the way and damaging something. Can the rear door be disabled from automatically opening?

Thanks,
Bruce

Do you mean you want to disable the hatch-open button that's inside the car? Yes, just disconnect power to the switch. Remove the panel/molding then unclip the harness behind the button.

Without doing any research, (I'll leave that up to you), can you just pull the fuse? If so, you could even rig a little switch for easy access.

That will help but someone using my car (GF) could still accidently do it from the key fob I would imagine.

One thing you could consider, is that when a trailer is connected to the Q5, the rear door won't open. Well it will, but it only unlocks and open just a little bit so you can manually open it. This allows you to verify that nothing is in the way.

So if you connect a trailer tester to your car, it would probably behave the same way.

Could be an easy workaround.

Cheers,

Very interesting. Fool the Q. I wonder if it would effect driving dynamics i.e. ESP.

It would, but since the center of the gravity will change because of the added weight outside of the vehicle, that might not be a bad thing!
