Default DIY transmission tools

I just wanted to post a photo with 3 cheap DIY tools that can be used to fill transmission with new fluid.

Problem for DIY is always a carlift. Solution to build a home inspection pit but one which can be covered when not in use for safety and from rain water contamination (unless it will also be used as a bath tab . Anyone who has constructed a home Inspection pit?? What do wifes say?? How do they react??

Usefully cheap DIY tools below, less than 30 USD in total. Missing a transmission adaptor for ease of pumping. Please share ideas or experiences in order to help us to avoid mistakes or learn from your experiences. Surely there are more expensive pumps but I could not find locally any manual type. Could only find one that is used alongside a compressor but for 150 USD.

This is the expensive compressor type for comparison purposes but I prefer to find a manual type transmission. hand pump.

Usually a garage uses the one below.

Buy a garden pump spray bottle at Walmart, about $15 for the 2 gallon size. Cut the tip off the end of the spray wand, and push some PVC clear tubing onto the wand tube. The other end of the PVC tubing goes to the screw-in fill adapter that then screws into the fill port of the transmission pan. Pour the all the new transmission fluid into the pump bottle, install the lid/pump, and pump the handle 5 or 10 times. Then the wand trigger can be used to control the injection of fluid into the transmission pan.

to be honest, I bought one of those 12V electric pumps off ebay, specifically designed for pumping oil / fuels.

It's been a little champ, yes it says it does 3L per min, that's BS it's more like 1L per min.

Will test all methods. My wife gave me the go ahead.
1. First photo tools purchased locally and 5 adaptors purchased from China
2. Last photo professional hand operated transmission 7.5l pump which comes with adaptors. Placed an order from Germany bcs I cannot find it locally.

Now I need to construct the 1.7m depth x4 long X 1 wide inspection pit will have to call my builder. are these the correct specs???? Will add a 10cm wide x 13cm height kicker for closing this pit when not in use

Wall thickness 20cm
Slab thickness 25cm
40 cm slab extension from walls.
Slab concrete m3=3m3
Wall concrete m3=4m3

Concrete 7χ80= About 550 euro
Mesh reinforcement Say #12/15 say 120kg per m3

7m3x120kg = say 1tonne reinforcement 500 euro

Steel fixer = 250 euro

Excavator 2 hours 100 euro

Labour 5 hours = 100 euro

Formworks
slab = 15m x 15= 225 euro
Walls= 20m2 x25 = 500 euro
775euro
Total cost= 2250

Then there are lights and compressed air outlet and wood for cover.

Any other less expensive solution??

Hi @apoelistas when the garage did my fluid changes, they used the compressor type of fluid extraction and pump mechanism to get it all done correctly. They actually had dedicated ones for tranny fluid vs. other fluids.

However, when I did this in my older C6, I used something like the hand pump mechanism you had and it worked well enough.

How did you get under the car and made sure car was also leveled?? Need to lift all 4 sides. Have only 2 ramps ...
With my car loan running (car not yet delivered) constructing the inspection pit is not the best choice at the moment but totally worth it in the long term perspective.

I actually had access and use of a lift Which REALLY helped for a couple of hours and that's all I needed. FWIW, I've considered getting something like this FAR too many times: QuickJack 5,000lb. SLX Capacity Portable Car Lift Bundle (costco.com)

What is the weight of each to carry. Is one person enough???
I see.more benefits with an inspection pit because I have the space and in my age I don't wish to carry heavy weights other than my tools and my parking space is not leveled which is a constraint in using this lift. . Thanks for posting a solution.

As all my 2.5 cars (one will be a supemini from bumblebee so 0.5 ) are automatic transmission. 2 of which are AWD I prefer to rely on myself in doing the DCT and gear oil changes, and oil checks and oil filter changes (CR-V). That will be one less headache to bear when and if needed.

Love the blue.intensive, photo above, my new car color order.
