Doohickey beside coat hooks

What's the thing beside the coat hooks used for? Theres a few of them in the car. If you look on page 93 of the manual you can see a picture of it to the left of the coat hook/handle. I'm sure it's obvious, but the manual makes no mention of it.

I think you're talking about the holders for the dog gate or optional aluminum gates.
