Did the train hit the car on the driver side? There is no sign of impact on the passenger side.

The driver side nose of the car looks pretty severely damaged. A CSX engine is something like 216 tons, so even a low-speed collision with one is pretty damn nasty.

Hitting the side of the car will just twist the occupants and slam them against the side of the car. This is not a test that the NHTSA/IIHS performs, so it is commendable that the Q5 does well on these.

No Kiddin, even a semi truck is not a worthy opponent for a locomotive engine.
The Q5 owner must have opted for the side airbag option....

Doesnt look like there was any side airbag deployment on the side of impact. Usually when there is seriouse impact in auto vs. train, the cars get twisted around the front of the train and bend. Doesnt look like to much frame bending happened. Maybe they were just to close to the tracks when the train went through and caught the corner of the nose?
