Default Hi! New here with a couple stupid questions (SQ5 related)

I am in the process of purchasing my first Audi and have been following this forum for great discussions and advise. I was going for a Q5 3.0T and couldn't find the package I wanted so I think it looks like I'm pulling the trigger on an Estoril Blue SQ5 tomorrow.

A couple questions (probably lame to some):
1- should I get Audi Care, I'm not exactly sure what it covers.
2- I've read about the engine fouling due to deposit build ups, are the 3.0T SQ5 engines affected by this as well?

I'll add other questions as I think of them.

Thanks for the help!

Hi Steve,

Audi Care is basically pre-paying for your scheduled services. It saves a little bit of money and protects against inflation.

I believe the TFSI engine fouling problems go back to the 3.2 motor. I've not heard of any SQ5s suffering.

Good luck with the Estoril Blue - you'll have a blast.

For lots of info on Audi Care, do a global AW forums search. There are gobs of discussions available.
Here's my take:

If you plan to do all service at the dealership, Audi Care is probably a good idea. I'll be using an independent shop after my 5k (free) service, because it is cheaper, so I passed. I did however go for extended full coverage 7yr/70,000mi warranty as I thought the price was reasonable, I drive about 10k miles per year, I plan to have the car 6-7 years, and will not be modifying it. I didn't think about negotiating price on the warranty, but it sounds like some dealerships will haggle a bit on price.

The 3.2 and 3.0T are essentially the same engine and are susceptible to plugging of the secondary air ports. Audi has extended the warranty to deal with this issue.

The good news is that there are very few instances of any carbon issues with the 3.0T and this engine has been available for 5 years, first with the 2009 A6.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like Audi Care also covers all the required maintenance check ups. I'll have to price em out and see how much I would save.

Thanks for all the responses. Tuesday can't get here soon enough.

Depending on the dealer, AC is usually works out to about 30-35% less than what they charge for the four services or roughly the same or a bit more than what an indy shop might charge for the same items. Also, you might want to wait to buy AC until your 15K mi service is due since the 5K is included at no charge and you can buy it anytime. However, if you're leasing, including AC into the lease will increase the residual by 1%, effectively reducing your payment which would offset some of the AC cost.

Enjoy the new car!
