HID Bulb Upgrade
I decided to upgrade the OEM HID bulbs with a bit brighter one's (4300K to 6500K) in my 2016 SQ5. The install went smoothly and the bulbs work fine. However, while driving one evening last week at night, the headlights seemed to flicker (pulse) while driving and then return to normal. No error codes shown on the dash while driving. Has anyone else experienced this with upgraded HID bulbs. For the record, these are from Morimoto and purchased from ECS Tuning. They are direct replacement fit for the Q5/SQ5.

My Q5 2009 came with Xenon HID from factory. Did not experience any flicker.

A couple of months ago I replaced both of my headlights with Philips D3S bulbs ($70 each, OEM temperature) and all went fine, no issues at all. My original bulbs were getting “tired” donut was a massive improvement. BTW, mine is a 2009 2.0T Q5.

Phillips D3S has many models. Difficult to choose the correct one.

Be very careful buying brand name bulbs from Amazon and ebay or other sites. There are a lot of fakes. I would only buy HID bulbs from a reputable sites like the retrofitsource or someone similar with a good reputation.

Let me disagree here, buying from Amazon these days is quite safe, got a fake product? Just return it, report it and get your money back, zero stress.

Might be a defective bulb, they should not flicker at all. TBH going past around 5000k like billm said your just loosing light output. Not saying what you chose is the worst scenario, but in most cases the perfect blend of white/blue color and output is around 5000k.

New Philips Xenons
Recently bought Philips xenons. "Philips Xenon X-TremeVision Gen2+150% D3S" 5000k. set of 2 $165.94. AMAZON
Great improvement over my 2 yr old oem bulbs. Did a lot of research before buying. Came to decision not to go beyond 5000k. Right decision for me.
If anyone is interested I have my original bulbs FOR SALE.
