Hi, almost time to buy new rims and tires for our Q5. Tried searching, now its just time to ask.
Whats a good wheel, that will fit and is reliable?
Is 17" possible, and/or recommended?
Dont want to spend a ton on rims, but will go all out on a good tire.
Thank you!

I cannot necessarily help you with the rims, but I intend to get Nokian Hakka R SUV winter tires (18") for our Q5 when it arrives later this year (the dealership will take off the all seasons and put the winters on the stock rims). I intend to purchase Hartmann replica rims for the summer.
RPI equipped in Richmond is a BC distributor of Hartmann wheels. I spoke with staff there who indicate that the price you see for rims in US funds is the same in CAN funds. They will ship for $25 per tire.

i ended up getting blizzak's on mine (18's). Worked pretty well in the Canadian winter last year. Our dealer was recommending 17's but i just didn't like the look...so I went with 18's.

Wanted to go with studded Nokian Hakka 7's from a local dealer but that package with their least expensive 18" alloy rims was almost a $1000 more than the set we ended up going with from TireRack (including shipping!) - Bridgestone DM-V1's on 18" rims which worked well over last year's Canadian winter in Edmonton (usual mix of cold, snow and ice with perhaps a bit more snow than usual).

Blizzaks are what I am getting. I found some wheeels (17) and tires from Tire Rack. Will ship them to an American address, and my cousin will drive 10 mins to pick them up, bring them back to Canada, saving me over 700 bucks!! Thats what I would save just on shipping. (to Canada).
And, I can get rims AND tires from Tire Rack, for what just a tire costs up here.
No brainer. And I get to help support the American economy!!

I got the Blizzak Dm-V1s on 18s last winter here in Minnesota and liked them (though last winter wasn't a good test). A little softer/smoother ride than my stock 19s but that could be as much because of the 18s as the winter tires. But a huge difference in traction on ice and snow. I don't think going down to 17s is necessary for this vehicle unless you live in some rural snowy area.
