Default Looking for a buffer

My present buffer died & I am looking for a replacement. Old one was 6" disc, good size but too heavy. Looking for a quality unit. I do all cleaning & polishing on both my cars. What would you recommend?

Many use the popular Porter Cable 7424 XP. I have one and it does a great job for a DA. I also have a rotary Makita when rarely needed.

Believe that my present buffer is a Porter Cable model. Bought from Mcguires a few years ago @ $140. Does that sound like yours? Have a good friend who is a retired electrical engineer. His diagnosis-- open motor .winding , It gets very hot. Did a great job,but heavy to use w/one hand. Is there a good buffer that is lighter weight? Prefer 6" disc--nothing larger

Yes, it was sold by Meguiar. Mine is over 20 years old, works fine. Doesn't get hot, I use it with one hand a lot, don't find it that heavy.

Go to Autogeek.com, click on Car Buffers, and you will most likely see most of the polishrrs available with reviews.

Another consideration would be Griot's polisher. Very similar design to the Porter-Cable. I've owned both.

The world has moved towards these long-throw designs, similar to a Rupes. You'll see a lot of these during your shopping, Greasy. They are somewhat more expensive and require a different pad system.

I found a Griot's "package" from one of the forum sponsors a couple years ago. It included the Griot's 6" and a bunch of pads, etc. Around $130. I think Griot's may still have the lifetime warranty.

Greasy, FWIW, Porter-Cable does have regional repair centers. I just get concerned that the cost of "repair" will approach the cost of a new machine...
