My SQ5 has been surging when cold since the day I bought it, just over 3 years ago when starting cold, putting in R to back out of the garage. Then when put in D it runs fine - so the issue is a bit different from the OP's. The surging when put in R is between 600 and 1000, at a steady rhythm.

It never bothered me until a couple of days ago when it went dead while backing out. All I had to do was restart and continue, but still it was unusual.

I've not brought it to the dealer's attention because I figured they'd keep it several days, and either say they "could not duplicate" (even though it happens every time), or they'd mess something up trying to fix it.
