Default SQ5 OEM rack crossbars

I started yesterday to install the crossbars that came with my 2014 SQ5, and I have had an awful time inserting the rubber strips into the slot across the top. I tried spraying them with a silicon spray but all that managed was to make all my improvised tools slippery.

How do you grip the strip to slide it across, and do you do it mounted or on the floor before mounting? I can't get it more than a foot or so across and it binds up tight.

Thanks,

John

Had the same issue when first using mine on the SQ5. The strips don't just slide in the slot, you have to actually force it in and you'll feel it sort of click into place. Use the back of a screw driver to force it in if you're having trouble. Oh and do this before mounting on the roof as that would be quite difficult. Hope this helps.

Odd... I put on the crossbar last week to that I could throw the Xmas tree up there. My racks came with the rubber stripping insntalled.

You don't have to slide it across - just lay it on top and press it down in to the slot. A little bit of spray (of some slippery variety) might help but, I didn't even need that.
