I've used a Add a fuse tap on both cars, works great, just make sure you secure the ground wire.

Do you have a recommendation on which one to tap?

On the black strip, fuse #9 is for the Supplementary Heater, 5A, which most of us do not have.

On the brown strip, #2 is also 5A, for the WiFi that many of us do not have.

So those two fuses should be perfect to tap if you don't have those devices installed.

There's a list of fuses in the manual, but Audi cleverly enumerates them in the reverse order that they are shown in, so they are very easy to confuse.

I'm scouting for places to install an extra lighter socket myself, but may just install some Anderson PowerPoles instead, they take up way less space. Are you planning to just install the whole lighter socket in the glove box? Or is there room to install it "through" the glove box wall?

I stuck a flashlight in the glove box last week and found out, yes Virginia, there really is an air conditioning vent in the back there! In my old friend's '68 Beetle, he had the same thing. Well, a big hole that fresh air blew through from under the hood.(G)

The other option would be to pull power from the overhead panel. If you don't use the remote control functions, you could steal power from right up there (hardwire in) and have less wiring to run around as well.

Personally I like concealed wiring, but I've got no idea how to gently lift an A-pillar cover when there is an explosive charge (the airbag) under it.

Which dashcam are you trying?

Seems like they fall into "cheap, works poorly", "big, invites theft", "expensive for no obvious reason" and a few other categories. Like the one from Cobra, which seems very reasonable until you find out the mount is twice the size of the camera, and the GPS is external-only and a part of the bulky mount, so you can't just do without the huge mount.
