Ultimate DIY OEM Hitch Guide (Q5/SQ5)
#211
For anyone trying to gather up the Audi wiring components, I found a decent deal on the Q7 harness for about $240 shipped to the US from Cars245. It's a good $70 better than anything I could find on eBay. Cars245 is an eBay seller but they do not list the harness in their eBay store... need to go directly to their website. Here is the link: Wiring set for socket for trailer operation AUDI / VOLKSWAGEN 4L0971124F. Buy online at Cars245

Just picked up a new to us 2014 TDI and reading thru this thread to add the hitch. Unless I missed it , has the HELLA 5DS 010 154-011 controller been confirmed to work?

Parts enroute from ebay/mouser/local dealer to build the cable. Hella module enroute from Austria via Amazon! I thought I had a macan hitch via Facebook marketplace but after accepting an offer they responded that it must have been sold and not updated. I am hoping to locate a factory hitch by the time everything arrives otherwise I'll order the draw-tite from amazon!

I got the Hella Module installed and it does in fact show up in VCDS as 8K0.907.383E .
I am however getting stuck on the coding with 2 items:
1. I cannot get the 3 abs controller to accept the security access code (tried 61378)
2. I cannot find a way to change the importer and equipment numbers on the 69 trailer controller, they are greyed out
Anyone have any suggestions?

Still have coding issues but the Hitch is successfully installed and wired up. I'm thinking the abs module issue may be related to the used vagcom cable I bought. I ordered obdEleven pro from Amazon since it will arrive next day and will try to code again with that. Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. I added pictures of the completed hitch, the cutout I did on the cover and the grounding point I used so anyone searching later will see these

The ABS module coding issue was resolved with obdEleven, I am now fairly certain that the used VCDS cable i bought was a clone . The Hella 5DS.010.154.011 is working perfectly and shows up in VCDS as 8K0.907.383 E. I also received the Redarc tow-pro brake controller and got it installed today so the hitch install is now complete. Since I located a complete 8R0.055.202.D kit, I have the components to make the cable as well as the original 8k0.907.383.E controller available if anyone is interested.

Finally purchased a Stealth hitch after finding an unused one with the complete accessory package on eBay for $500 shipped versus $917 new retail. I kept putting off the purchase because I was having a hard time justifying the Stealth hitch for $600+ when the DrawTite hitch is less than $250 but I really wanted the "hidden" hitch. I was comparing the Stealth receiver to photos of the DrawTite receiver and I was wondering why the Stealth has longer extensions and a hook/slot on the end of each extension (see photo). Does anyone know the purpose of these slots ? I suspect that it may just be a manufacturing feature to support the receiver for painting/finishing.

Considering each of those arms slide into the frame to later be bolted down, those serve no purpose. Like you said, maybe just a place to hook onto for painting.
