VAG COM
Hello Everyone,
I have a 2012 3.2 Q5 which recently had starting issues. The car would try and start but just kept cranking with no success so I would push the start stop button to stop it. When I tried the second time it would always start up. That issue has now stopped but a new one had come forward, the check engine light comes on intermittently (but is on the majority of the time). I was hoping there is someone in the Los Angeles area who would be kind enough to scan my car and tell me what the issue/code is (hopefully something I can fix myself) so I don't have to pay the stealership. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Dont need a VAG COM, any OBD reader will give you the codes. All repair stores, PEP Boys etc have them. Or you could buy a $30 one on Amazon.
Suggest you take it to an independent mechanic if you want to save money over the dealership.

VAG-COM (now called VCDS) scans far more than a generic OBD scanner. The generic scanner is pretty much limited to simple engine and transmission codes, while VCDS scans virtually every electronic module on the car. The starting issue could be something other than the engine, and the generic scanner wouldn't show it. But it should identify the CEL issue.
