Default Water pump failure poll

Let's create a poll to estimate the % of members that has had a failure of the water pump or not

It's only been a problem on 3.2's as far as I am aware, but if a 2.0l's failed, vote and post to clarify as well.

I don't think there are any 2.0T WP issues so I'll stay out of your poll so your results aren't skewed.

It will be interesting to compare with the spreadsheet. As of now info has been posted on...

455 Q5s
367 are the 3.2 unit.
14 reported fails
353 total of either replaced without breakdown, not affected IE Alloy housing or have not had a problem.
That currently equates to 3.8% fail but take into account that the most recent failure was on an arrival date of 9-March-10, means we are counting fails out of 220 cars which is just over 6%.
If you want to feel better about it in the last 8 months no fails out of 235 cars, yeah 0% fail rate!
Oh and yes all fails were on the 3.2 unit.
I am so glad I keep the spreadsheet going because otherwise the internets could paint a really bad picture.

All I can say is the more info you guys post the better the spreadsheet works for all of us.

I have the 3.2, with a build date of 10-09 with the plastic water pump, and have not had a failure. However, i do have relatively low mileage. I had the 5k service done a few weeks ago and my vin was not part of the RVU list at the time. The service advisor did tell me that the list is updated constantly though and mine could come up at any time. He did not deny that there was a list. He did tell me that the low speed shudder on the Q5 was mostly an internet rumour though and that they had not replaced any steering hoses on the Q5's yet. Go figure

Great job! Thanks! Very interesting stats. The fact that a part fails is not a big deal to me - machines are machines and things can happen. The important issue is that a problem is recognized and a solution found and implemented. Thanks Audi!
(BTW mine failed at 74,000 km)
