What grade of fuel are people using?

Most of the major gas company add detergent in the gas. I know Shell does it as well as Sunoco and Petro-Canada... I do not know for Exxon and Mobil as I don't live in the US, but we can fairly assume that they offer it as well.
One question, does someone know if the 91 or 93 octane grade gas in the states include alcohol? In Canada (in Quebec anyway) we don't have a lot of gas company that offers the mix. I wonder what the effect on performance is.

Selling ethanol keeps the farmers happy with their subsidy check but raises a whole political discussion about reducing dependence on foreign oil vs. the food supply going up in smoke and raising food costs and taxes. Nobody would bother to use ethanol for fuel if the Fed didn't artificially lower the price per gallon via subsidies and regulate (require) its use.

The dealer told us to use premium, which is 93 octane here. The owners manual specifies 91 octane, which correlates to mid-range here.
We've used 93-octane premium exclusively until recently, when mrs. elevens accidentally filled it up with regular unleaded (87 octane). The car hates it! No throttle response and noticeably less power under full throttle.
How does the Q5 run with 91 octane vs. 93 octane?
Note: The above octane numbers are what's commonly used in the USA - (R+M)/2. Other parts of the world may use a different octane rating system.

93 from Shell (again, no ethanol).
I noticed a great improvement in the MPG's. It coincided with warmer temps and 16k on the odo

I put 91 in and I don't really care where I get it from. Just cuz the sign says Shell doesn't mean it all came from Shell. And if you've ever had an issue with a gas station, the oil company will tell you to take it up with the distributor.

Funny, when I went around looking to buy my Q5, one of the dealer I went to told me that using anything under 91 will void the car's warranty. I didn't bother asking my salesman if this was true or not and believed the first guy until I read in the user manual that 91 is suggested and everything under 87 (if I recall correctly) should not be used. There was no mention about warranty issue.
