Default Winter PERFORMANCE tire help!!

Looking for a more performance winter tire. I currently have the blizzak DM-V1's. They are a great winter tire just a little fishy in dry weather. I am running 255/45/20's. I am thinking of going with the Pirelli scorpion winter or the Dunlop SP winter sport 3D. I travel between my home in Colorado and back to Dallas about three times in the winter. Most trips are very cold but dry. Once I am in Colorado I drive my Jeep with studded tires if things get crazy. I have read that the dunlops are more stable in dry conditions. Anyone have any suggestions or advice?

Very cold but dry, just run Pilot Sport A/S 3s, they're fine in light snow as well.

I have the dmv1 in 235/55-19. My first winter on them (sq5). I bought for price and reviews, but we're slated for a mild winter this year. What do you mean by fishy? Even in the cold? I guess they're not a performance tire though. Hmmm, what are the chances I take them off mid-winter for a more performance winter tread in the dry cold we have.....

Had the PS AS3's on my S5. They sucked in the snow compared to a true winter tire.

Default Go with the Pirelli Scorpion Winters

JBD

the Pirellis should be good. I ran them on my Evoque Dynamic the last two winters. Made a trip from C Springs to Louisiana (thru Texas) and back in March. Temps into the 60s. The tires weren't squishy/squirrelly at all (and I was running 235/65 17s!!) ... in a 40 to 50 profile it shouldn't be a problem at all. Just bought the 255/50 19s as my winter tire on the new SQ5

Get!!! Thank you!! I really like the DM-V1's in the snow, but you know the winters have been so dry here along the front range. It's still in the 80's as you know. I do drive my jeep when the weather gets real bad. Hope to see you around town. Maybe will mount the winters come the end of October. Lol.

They're good enough to run around the foothills in though, I did it all last winter. Multiple E470 to DIA runs between Christmas and New Years and had no problems staying with (or passing) the flow of traffic on the snow pack.

But no they're not a winter tire and if you truly need a winter tire I'd go with the Pirelli Scorpion Winter.

JB, have you looked at Nokian's "all season" tire, the WR3?

It performs pretty well in the snow, much better than any "all season" tire I've driven on. Only problem is, they're not available in a whole lot of sizes.

I remember the WR2 was called the best tire for snow and could be used all season with great success. Then one reviewer had a less than stellar comments and you know what hit the fan with its fans and even the company.
