Default Popping sensation when turning the steering wheel

I have a 2014 SQ5 with 65k miles. About 6 months ago, I started feeling a slight pop sensation when turning the steering wheel. It's just a very slight pop and it seems to happen at specific locations when turning the wheel left or right. It happens both when the vehicle is rolling and when it is stopped. control arm bushings are fine.
I see online that there is a TSB for electromagnetic power steering on 2012-2014 Q5s, but it doesn't describe exactly what the TSB is for.
Before I go on an expensive fishing expedition with the dealer (I'm out of warranty), I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this and if so what you did to resolve it.

Here's a link to the TSB I found:
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...53913-3412.pdf

The TSB seems to require a simple flashing of the power steering module.
but it also says the issue happens mostly in freezing conditions, but I live in LA... so it doesn't completely fit.

Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

So you never received a letter for getting this SW fix done? If I remember well some people with affected Q5s received letters. (safety issue). Wait for more replies .

Nope, no letter from Audi. I've some others have called it a "notch' feeling in the wheel... almost as if a cog was missing from the steering rack

2014-15 Audi SQ5 recalled for steering issue
Audi is recalling 5,625 crossovers from model years 2014 and 2015 due to a fault in the electric power-assisted steering system. The affected vehicles were built between May 22, 2013 and April 14, 2015.

The vehicles in question may experience power-steering shutdowns in cold conditions. Good thing the US' average July temperature sits in the mid 70s. The actual root of the problem is a fault in the steering motor sensor, according to the bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. While manual steering would still be available, the sudden loss of power could catch drivers off guard, increasing the chances of a crash.

Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified by Audi USA, and will need to report into dealers for a software update to the power steering control module. Scroll on down for the official notification from Audi.

Report Receipt Date: JUL 20, 2015
NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V452000
Component(s): STEERING
Potential Number of Units Affected: 5,625

Manufacturer: Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
SUMMARY:
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Audi SQ5 vehicles manufactured May 22, 2013, to April 14, 2015. The affected vehicles have an electric power steering assist system that may shut down in cold temperatures due to a steering motor sensor fault.
CONSEQUENCE:
If the vehicle experiences a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
REMEDY:
Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will update the power steering control module software, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin July 28, 2015. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 48M1.
NOTES:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

I called Audi and they say it's technically a TSB, not a recall... so it wouldn't be covered out of warranty, if that's what it is.
Anyone else have a "notchy" feeling when you turn the wheel?

Information was published on the web. If Audi you spoke to is customer service then you need to go higher, e.g. Audi service manager, next up the ladder is Audi (AoA) headquarters support line (some people in this forum have this number), also call the phone no. mentioned in this article. Don't give up. This info is your free ticket. Good luck. Seriously I will be disappointed if the information I have provided does not reflect the reality.

On our 2011 it was a front subframe bolt that was ever so slightly torqued below spec. Caused a pop at low speeds.
