Bang & Olufsen Rear Speakers Question

Are you sure this is not caused by the "surround sound" effect"? Rear speakers are completely altered by the surround sound adjustment and is intended only for use with front seat passengers. The rear will always sound "weird" to back seat passengers with surround effect on. Maybe I am stating the obvious to you, but I'm confident some owners missed that point. Also, with no midrange speakers or center channel speakers in the back seat, and being located closer to the subwoofer, the rear seat will always be poor(er) than the front.
I've come to the conclusion that the B&O branding is more marketing than actual premium sound. For the record, this is true for most any car. The Burmeister system in a MB C-class doesn't sound like a S-class. The B&W in a Volvo XC60 is not as good as a XC90. And the B&O in a Audi A4 is not as good as a A8. Of course the price of the system probably reflects the performance. I, too, wish when you checked the "premium" audio box that (regardless of cost) what you got was premium, not just marketing hype with an incremental performance increase.

It's just disappointing. And it's such a significant difference between the front and back that I honestly wondered if there was something defective with my car. So I was looking for opinions from others to determine if it was just me. But sadly it appears that it's just the way the system was designed.

I recently purchased a 2018 SQ5 Prestige with the B&O audio. I had some trouble from day 1 with the MMI system acting weird. Some of the issues affected audio playback. The other day, I had the 5F module replaced and almost all the issues are resolved. One thing I thought was related to the problem has not been fixed however. The rear speakers just don't sound good. They're not distorted like they're blown or anything, but they just sound thin and much lower in volume than the fronts. When I listen to music with the balance/fader centered, and the focus setting set to "all", I can't hardly hear music from the back at all, it sounds as if it's coming from entirely in front of me. If I fade it to the back, then the front, there's a noticeable difference in the volume and quality of the sound. There's more speakers in the front from what I can tell, so that might partially explain it, but it just doesn't sound right in the back. I had a '13 S4 w/ B&O before this and it sounded much better overall. Did they just do a crappy job with the sound system in the '18's B&O system, or do I have a issue with the back speakers or amp or something? I'll probably ask my dealer to let me sit in another one on the lot and listen to some music to see if it's the same, but I was wondering if anyone else noticed a significant difference between the sound from the back and front speakers.

I think it's just a bad design. I had to put my ear right next to the speaker panel just to see if they are working.
I was excited with the B&O when I took home my Q5 prestige thinking I don't have to modify the stock sound system any more but just got really disappointed when I started tuning it. All my other cars that I've built the sound system works great regardless of where you sit in the car.
