This has been a long standing confusion and yes, there are only two maps. D and S. Both Comfort and Auto use D, so they have exactly the same throttle map and transmission program. They both use Balanced. Effectively, the engine and transmission have only two modes. Comfort and Auto are the same as far as the engine/transmission is concerned. Audi finally fixed this long standing confusion in the FL models with MIB3. When configuring the Individual mode you now only have two options for the engine/transmission setting. Balanced and Dynamic. The terminologies may warry between markets. There's a third map in markets that get the E mode (Eco). In that case there's an Efficiency map in addition to Balanced, and Dynamic.

Auto has long been the worst misnomer when it comes to Audi Drive Select. They should have just called it the Audi mode like Bentleys have the B (Bentley) mode, which sits between Comfort and Sport, or just do what both BMW and Mercedes do. Have Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes with Comfort being the default/normal mode.

I was replying to the question of the Auto (Balanced) setting for Air suspension, not engine or transmission. I believe there is a middle suspension mode, but @superswiss can correct me if I'm wrong.
