Why does the 2019 Q5 Prestige have a lower residual value than a Premium Plus?
I have been told by some Audi dealers that "the 2019 Q5 Prestige does not lease as well as the Premium Plus", and the residual percentage at the end of the lease is about 2-3% lower on the Prestige than on the Premium Plus. The dealerships also seem to have WAY more Premium Pluses than Prestige's in inventory, so perhaps they don't want people to lease a Prestige. Please let me know your thoughts as to why the residual percentage would theoretically be lower on the Prestige. I would think they should be the same.
Also, does the fact that the residual percentage on the Prestige is lower, mean it would be a "better" car to write a check for (looking at the net price as a percentage of the MSRP of the vehicle vs. the Premium Plus? Thank you.

The residual is less because the higher spec options are worth less when they go to resell the car after you turn it in. They drop the values to account for this.
The dealer stocks more P+ because that’s what sells better for them.
Leasing versus buying is a tricky question to answer, and there will be strong opinions in both camps. Generally, if you’re going to get rid of the car after 2-3 years anyway, leasing it might make sense. If you plan to keep the car for a long time or would buy it after the lease is up you should probably just buy it outright to start with.
You will need to get a formal quote for the lease on both and compare to buying it and see what makes the most sense for you, and how much the extra features of the Prestige model are worth to you.

If you are interested in leasing the Prestige level take a look at the SQ5. I leased an SQ5 Prestige for less than a Q5 Prestige because the Prestige trim on the Q5 residual is low but on the SQ5 it was higher. The difference in the residuals offset the higher MSRP. If you are leasing also consider adding Audi Care, it raises the residual by 1% which covers most of the cost of Audi Car.
