740 miles today in our TDI Q7--- Birmingham to Austin ----Notes
11 1/2 hours driving time. 27.0 mpg. Avg speed including traffic and a delay for a wreck--- 64 mph. Most of the time had cruise set on 79 mph. Lots of radar. Got hit with Laser once in LA. (Apparently 78 was within his tolerance :-) )
Really an easy drive. Used the southern route via I 59-- I 10 . Traffic heavy but flowed well. I'm not sure there is any vehicle that would be better for a run like this. Got to our lodging and said to my wife that I really felt fine after such a haul. ( I'm 61)
Observed that most people drove really well. Low points are the ones who when you use your signal before a lane change, accelerate to try and keep you from moving over in front of them. (It's not a race people. Cooperate!)
Oh, and the 18 wheelers who tailgate you in the left lane when you are passing slower traffic. ( Hey big guy--- I can stop WAY quicker than you. Give me some space please.) I think it's because they are up high and looking over us at the 18 wheeler in front of us. NOT a comfortable place to be.
All in all a good day. Started to make the trip in my S5 but decided last night to bring the Q7. That was a good decision. Its a shame these things have a bad rap environmentally. Great vehicles.
