Power steering unresponsive to steering inputs?

Happened twice driving around town today. To the right specifically, turning the wheel to change lanes the vehicle did not move but the engine revved to 3500 rpm (in a tdi) for close to 10 seconds before the wheels responded and it jumped to the right. First I thought it might be a weird fluke but when it happened a 2nd time in an hour I am concerned. 122k fluids are good (full). Any body ever had a similar experience??

That would be very unsettling! Does your Q7 have Adaptive Cruise Control by chance? If so...it seems like I read where the steering was electron-mechanical & hydraulic, where the computer would control minor inputs to the steering when ACC was active.....to cope with traffic, etc.

ACC does not steer the car, it only operates the brakes or throttle so it's unlikely to have caused this issue. Either way, that's scary and I would not drive said car until having it repaired by a quality mechanic.
