Still fighting....
Took the car to a local Audi specialist with ODIS
ODIS refused to remove component protection... Tried recoding the control head but made no difference. Tried a different diagnostic test which pointed to the component protection error being in 'Display Control Head' rather than 'Central Control Head'
Have ordered a new MMI interface module and will try again with that.
