Q7 Headlight Question
Anyone know if you can change the ambient light level at which the automatic headlights turn on? This is for a 2015 S-Line Prestige. It also has some weird "feature" where the dash starts to dim as the ambient light fades. It does this even when in the auto setting. I would rather it just turn the lights on than dim the dash??? Does that sound normal or should I talk to a service advisor?

The lighting control is rather complex.
It can illuminate the dash lights if it detects cabin light levels are such that it would be difficult to read the display and they can be adjusted separately from the headlights being on or off. If it decides to turn on the headlights because the wipers are operating on auto, it may not think you need the dash illuminated unless it's dark enough inside the car. It also takes into account the level of light hitting the front or rear of the car so it can turn on the headlights if you have the low sun behind you even if it's still quite light. The pretty much thought of every scenario really.
As for adjusting the level of sensitivity to light, it may well be possible through VAG-COM but be careful because of all the permutations of light it reacts to.

If you have a VCDS cable from Rosstech the you can adjust the sensitivity of the light sensor. You can make it more sensitive (lights on earlier), or less sensitive (lights on later). Otherwise, there's a switch in the dash to raise/lower the brightness of the dash lights manually, perhaps try adjusting that and see if it works better for you?
