Q7 trailer wire harness: why is cost ridiculous??
Ok, I can almost fathom why the 4E0907383C brake control module would be expensive, but seriously: can someone explain to me why a WIRE HARNESS to connect the brake control module and the 7-pin connector on the actual hitch is $170-$350??
i only need the wire harness/loom that connects the brake control module (4E0907383C) to the 7-pin trailer Harness Connector (4L0055305U).
maybe I'm just searching for the wrong part? I'm attempting to find either
4L0971124F (current) or 4L0971124B (older).
Thanks in advance for any help - it's for a '09 Q7 4.2 Prestige S-line.

I thought the wire harness was built in all Q7's for the tow module? I thought all you had to buy was the module and the hitch. install plug it in and get a vagcam to tell the can bus the tow module is there and bingo...

Yes agreed. But i already have the tow bar, hitch connector, and the brake controller module. I need the electrical cords that run along the tow bar and up into the back between them... Just the wires.

Ever get any help with this ??? I bought another Q7 and I'm trying to figure out the harness now myself. got both ends of the harness from a junk yard no middle part, what is the 2 pin connector for that splits off the harness.

Thanks for going through the time to do the write up! I'm definitely going to make mine after seeing this.
Do you happen to have the part numbers for the pins that I'll need to crimp on the wires for the 2 pin and 16 pin connectors?

Sorry must be it didn't get in the thread the first time. I used the 14 gauge wire.
part number: 000 979 225 = 3-7212 (for 2.5mm˛ wire ~~14 gauge). The dealer should have some of these, expensive but worked fine. the smaller ones are :
1.0mm˛ = 000 979 133, I thought teh woire was to small, both fix in the 2 pin connector.

Thanks for your work putting this info together. I know this thread is older but hopefully this question will help others too.
It seems like the part numbers you mention from ECS are for the housings. I can't tell if the housing includes the pins.
Can you confirm if the pins come with the housing?
Is a tool needed to extract the pins for attaching the wires?
Did you solder the wires to the pins or are they crimped?

After two years someone unearthed this, so I got reminded that I should attempt to make a retrofit again.
I can confirm that the the two OEM connector housings (3 and 4 in the above image) DO NOT include the pin connectors necessary to complete the job.
Are there any Audi techs in the forums that can identify the type of pin connectors needed for the following:
Connector Housing - 16-Pin (Black) 6Q0937713
2 Pin Connector - Priced Each 1J0972923
