Side assist system fault
Noticed the other day that my side assist wasn't functioning on my '07. Side Assist system fault warning on the dash when I push the button on the door to try and restart the system. Had my car into the shop and they tell me that Module 2 (passenger side I assume) is out, so I need a new module, taking the rear bumper off to install, reprogramming and calibration. Will run around $600. Anyone have any experience DIY or is this something that needs to be done by the shop?
Thanks!

You might be able to pull the calibration settings off the old module and code them into the new module since none of the actual sensors are being changed out.. but you'd need a VCDS tool to do such a thing.. not sure what Module 2 is tho, in VCDS the module with the address of #2 is for the Auto Trans.

Sounded like the rear bumper needs to be removed to access the modules.

if they are under the back rear bumper its probably an actual sensor, or attached to one.. likely would need recalibrated if replaced, only the dealers would have the proper tools

That's what I was thinking, but I wanted to see if anyone tried a fix on their own. I was at least hoping to be able to swap the module myself and then have the dealer initialize/calibrate it.

I've been told you will need to remove the rear bumper cover and there is a sensor on each side. VCDS can identify the bad sensor.
