08 Q7 Rear lift gate opens then slams shut

08 Q7 Rear lift gate opens then slams shut
My rear lift gate will open a few inches then slam shut. I can force it open but I have to hold it the whole time to keep it from closing on me. Are my motors bad? Can I turn off or disengage the motors?

If you have the power tailgate option the motors are only really used on closing of the tailgate.
they do assist in raising but it is mostly the rear gas struts doing the raising.
If your motors are bad though, it may sense obstruction or even the angle of the tailgate is out and will try to close to lid after it tried to raise it.
if you have VCDS you can read the the rear trunk motors for faults and then determine if they are playing up. Address is 6D and module J605.
start with the rear struts first though bud
