Additional Key

When the dealer programs the new key to the car, make sure you have ALL of your keys there. The programming process erases all key matching, so for instance, if the emergency and valet keys aren't re-matched to the car, they won't work to start it any more.

Check with your car insurance company to see if they will cover the cost of a second key. Just tell them you lost it and they will probably replace it for you less any deductible you may have.

Having just bought a 2010 with one key. I made two keys/fobs conditional in my offer to purchase. The private dealers lot said OK I get a key. They had a locksmith cut me a new key and fob. The locksmith spent a good 8 hours and failed to get a working fob. The key would open the door but that's it. I then took it to Audi who procured a key/fob for me. Cost was 280 for the fob and 120 for the coding. It ended up being a 400.00 Canadian cost the for dealer who sold the car. I know it's an old thread but others searching might find answers helpful.

What is the cheapest way to get a key fob w/key? do I need to take it to the dealer for programming?
