My reason for asking is that I got a 3.6 Q7 and I was curious if the exhaust piping is the same or similar between the 4.2 and 3.6. With your pic I can look at mine and compare them.

I was asking bcuz I got a 3.6l and with the pic i can see how similar or different the exhaust piping is between the 4.2 and 3.6 are.

Once you get this exhaust system developed will it be a bolt on system or will a mufler shop need to do some cutting and welding?

bolt on with clamps, you could do this yourself or if you do not feel comfortable you can have a shop install it... of course it is always easier on a lift over a ramp or on your back.
